DIABLO -- a backbone news transit and spool system, designed to replace INN. Freely available source which should compile and run on most flavours of Unix.
DNEWS -- Commercial USENET NNTP news server software for most flavours of Unix, as well as Windows NT. Starting with version 5.1, they support alternative anti-spam software -- see <http://netwinsite.com/dnews/filters.htm>.
Deja News -- The Internet de-facto standard site for serving Usenet news (no binaries) via the web.
Giga·news -- Large commercial news provider, including ISP outsourcing and personal news access.
Good Net Keeping Seal of Approval (GNKSA) -- A document describing minimal standards for decent net-behaviour, in an effort to encourage newsreader authors to write better behaving newsreaders.
HighWind Software -- Vendors for the commercial carrier-class (ultra-high performance) Cyclone NewsRouter, Typhoon NewsServer, as well as the less expensive Breeze NewsServer. Products (in binary format) are available for most common versions of Unix.
INN -- The Internet de-facto standard program for handling news routing, as well as news spool and serving that spool to customers. If you''re just setting up a brand-new Usenet news server, this is the place to start. Freely available (for various versions of Unix) from the Internet Software Consortium.
INN 2.x How-To -- The start of an updated FAQ for INN 2.x, completely re-written from the ground-up.
Leafnode -- a USENET system for small sites
Leafnode+ -- Based on the original Leafnode package, with a few extensions. Work is underway to re-merge Leafnode+ with the updated version of Leafnode.
Managing Usenet -- book from O''Reilly - a must read for those running a Usenet News server. Primarily covers C News and INN 1.x. Notably does not (yet) cover INN 2.x.
Mib Software NewsrA+e -- Daily measurement of how well you are receiving articles, unlike the "Freenix Top 1000" which measures how well you send articles to your peers, and reports just once a month. Mib Software newsrA+e reports show that you don''t have to be anywhere close to the top of the "Freenix Top 1000" to be receiving articles well.
NCSA HyperNews -- a cross between the hypermedia of the WWW and Usenet News. HyperNews is implemented using a package of CGI programs that provide centralized, asynchronous conferencing capabilities for HTTP servers.
NNTPCache -- Transparently merges local newsgroups & multiple remote feeds (usually handled by INN) with remote NNRPD and NNTPCache servers to create mind-bogglingly large "virtual" newsfeeds, without having to negotiate for standard feeds or allocating anything like bandwidth or drive space normally required (normally around 23-30G/day, with all binaries included). Freely available and compiles for most Unix platforms.
NNTPRelay -- The only carrier-class news router for Windows NT. Freely available. Also available from the same authors is the freely available news server program "Tortoise" for Windows NT.

Network News Transport Protocol -- nntp server (mainly used for C-News)
NewsCache -- A freely available cache server for Usenet News. Reduces the required network bandwidth and the IO load of the news server. Additionally, it multiplexes between different news servers and allows offline news reading.
NewsChannel Lite -- nntp for win nt
NewsReader.Com -- Usenet for the web. The only news-via-web site that has received the "Good Net Keeping Seal of Approval".
Newscaster -- One beta implementation of Usenet news via multicast
Newsfeeds.com -- Claims to be the largest NNTP site in the WORLD, with full uncensored access to everything.
Newsguy -- Commercial and retail Usenet and Up to the minute news services, Software and sound/image archives, E-mail services, Web hosting, Internet Gallery and News Commentary. Offers news-via-web serving, accepts no advertising, and displays no ad banners.
NuthinButNews -- NuthinButNews is a commerical usenet provider. They focus on providing usenet through NNTP, but also provide a free and subscription based web interface.
Randori News - Uncensored Usenet Discussion Group Access -- Randori News provides instant Usenet newsgroup access for Individuals and Usenet outsourcing for Businesses and Internet Service Providers.
RemarQ -- Global Usenet access. Individual accounts and ISP/Corp outsource solutions. Web based search and newsreader and Usenet powersearch.
Spam Hippo -- Server side spam removal software, and other tools for Usenet news administrators.
Suck -- A program used to grab news from a remote NNTP news server and bring it to your local machine, without the remote server doing anything special. If you have read permission on the server, you can use suck. Suck does NOT use the NEWNEWS command, hated by many administrators. Freely available source code that should compile on most versions of Unix.
Tortoise -- Freely available news spool server for Windows NT, based on the NNTPRelay program from the same authors.
USENET replayer -- a set of tools to communicate via USENET. Provides the following functions: news resources archive, web news server, send questions to news groups get the USENET messages protect your reputation against counterfeiters product advertising and news server searching.
mcntp -- Another freely available implementation of Usenet news via multicast
