District Courts of New Zealand -- The District Courts in New Zealand are Courts of record possessing a civil and criminal jurisdiction. The District Court was created by the District Courts Act 1947 (formerly the Magistrate''s Courts Act 1947). Following a review of the Courts in 1979 the former Magistrates Courts were reconstituted as District Courts with substantially extended jurisdiction. The Environment Court -- Constituted by the Resource Management Amendment Act 1996 and formerly known as the Planning Tribunal.
