Particular emphasis will be placed on evaluating the significance of the effects of such toxicants on humans. Areas that may be highlighted in papers include the biochemistry, biosynthesis, chemistry, epidemiology, immunology, metabolism, nutritional relevance, pharmacology, and pathophysiology of various classes of natural toxicants and the therapeutic applications of natural toxicants in medicine and biology. The Natural Toxins Institute at Texas A&M University-Kingsville -- The overall mission of the Natural Toxins Research Initiative is to establish research facilities with modern equipment and a diverse faculty that will foster excellence in natural toxins research. The current research focus is on the biochemistry of snake toxins and animals that have a natural resistance to snake venoms.
